Hi, my name is Alex and this is my sports blog, providing a mix of match reports, interviews and comment pieces.
My interest in sport is long-standing. I am an avid fan of Fulham Football Club and enjoy nothing more than making the walk from Putney Bridge Tube Station to Craven Cottage to watch the Whites play (even if the result is quite often disappointing). Although I primarily follow football, I enjoy watching a wide range of sports and also play badminton.
I started writing articles on a regular basis for The Citizen, the weekly newsletter at City of London School for Boys. From there, I moved on to the University of Leeds, where I played an active role with The Gryphon, the University’s student newspaper. In first year, I contributed to the Sport section as a writer, before becoming an editor of that section for the following two years. As well as regularly covering university sports fixtures, I wrote comment pieces on topical issues in professional sport. Articles written during my time at The Gryphon are on my LinkedIn page (Alexander Bowmer) under the Experience tab. Being at Leeds also meant that I could obtain press passes to Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire County Cricket Club fixtures, which were really enjoyable occasions.
This blog, started in January 2016, was created to add to my portfolio of work and offer a personal slant on interesting sporting issues, topical or otherwise. Watch this space for more pieces and feel free to have a read through my previous articles!
